Dedication to Leather
Sensuality in Sculpture
During the final process of selecting the perfect leather for Montblanc products, the craftsmen rely on their most important sensory organ – their hands. Years of experience have taught them to read leather for signs of impurity, as the blind read stories in brail. Their hands search for even the tiniest of imperfections in the material – the most miniscule cracks or the smallest bruises and unevenness.
Once the craftsman is certain the piece chosen is immaculate, he sets about sharing his memories with those of the animal. As he clasps, forges and hammers the material, his soul pouring through his fingertips, mingling with that of the leather, he moulds a spirited product, a sculpted memoir to the lives involved in creating it – a story of living art.
